One-to-One Art Mentorship

Get personalized guidance exactly when and where you need it most

Sometimes what you really need isn't another tutorial - it's someone to look at your specific work, understand your particular challenge, and guide you through solving it in a way that serves your unique practice and goals.

That's what these mentorship sessions offer:
focused, personalised support for your art practice.

*What This Is*

Private mentorship sessions exclusively for students who've enrolled in The Wild Sketchbook.

These sessions are completely led by you and your current needs. There's no set curriculum and no expectation about where you "should" be. We work on whatever feels most useful to you right now, in whatever format serves you best - live Zoom sessions, custom video feedback, or a combination of both.

This might look like:

  • Solving a specific technical challenge (like painting feathers that aren't getting muddy, or understanding how light works on bird anatomy)

  • Getting feedback on work in progress and knowing what to focus on next

  • Working through a piece together in real-time so you can see actual process

  • Planning an ambitious project you've been thinking about but aren't sure how to approach

  • Applying what you learned in TWS to your own subjects and style

  • Building confidence in your unique artistic voice with wildlife

  • Or anything else that will help you move forward in your creative practice

What We Might Work On Together

Every mentorship is different because every artist's needs are different.

Here are some examples:

Technical Challenges

  • Understanding how to master a specific medium, like oil paints or graphite

  • Understanding how light reveals form or how to paint without getting muddy colours

  • Working with challenging colours and maintaining vibrancy

  • Capturing the essence of a creature without overworking

Artistic Development

  • Translating course lessons to your own subjects and style

  • Building a cohesive body of work

  • Developing your unique artistic voice with wildlife

  • Planning and executing ambitious multi-subject compositions

Creative Process

  • Getting unstuck on a piece in progress

  • Working through creative blocks or confidence wobbles

  • Setting up sustainable practice rhythms

  • Knowing what to focus on next in your development

Project Support

  • Planning a project you've been thinking about but aren't sure how to approach

  • Creating work for specific purposes (exhibitions, conservation partnerships, publications)

  • Building a portfolio that reflects your vision

*How it works*

1. You make a booking, then send me:

  • Examples of your current work

  • What you're working on or stuck with

  • What you hope to achieve through mentorship

2. We determine the best format

Based on your needs, we'll decide whether live Zoom sessions, custom video feedback, or a mix of both will serve you best.

3. We work together Whether that's:

  • Live sessions where we work through challenges in real-time

  • Custom video feedback where I review your work and demonstrate solutions

  • A combination tailored to your specific situation

4. You get ongoing support

Between sessions (for 3 and 6-session packages), you have Voxer voice note and text support - send me quick questions, share progress photos, or get feedback as you practice.

FAQ

  • You do not need to have completed it - the course is not really designed to be finished, but to be an ongoing inspiration. Mentorships are only provided to TWS students because by enrolling you have shown you are serious about your art, and you have worked within the content and are familiar with my teaching style and methods. The course provides the foundation we'll build on together.

  • We meet via Zoom for 60 minutes. You can share your screen, show me your work, and we work through challenges together in real-time. I might demonstrate techniques, we might work through your piece together, or we might plan your approach to a project.

  • I review your work and record personalized video guidance - demonstrating solutions, explaining my thinking, and giving you clear direction. You can watch it multiple times and work at your own pace.

  • We'll discuss what serves your specific situation best. Some challenges are best solved live (real-time troubleshooting, watching my process). Others work beautifully async (detailed feedback you can reference repeatedly, flexibility across time zones).

  • Yes! You actually get a private, password protected page on my website that will house all our live sessions and any links I want to share with you. You have access to this for life, and can return to them whenever you need a supportive reminder.

  • Typically 2-4 weeks for packages, giving you time to practice and integrate what we've worked on. We'll determine the rhythm that serves your practice during our first session.

  • Absolutely! Many students start with a single session or 3-session package, then continue with additional packages as needed.

  • Life happens - just give me 48 hours notice and we'll find another time that works.

  • Yes! If live sessions are challenging due to time zones, we can focus on video feedback, or find session times that work for both of us.

  • For 3 and 6-session packages, you get access to me via Voxer (a voice messaging app) between sessions. You can send me quick questions, share progress photos, or get feedback as you practice. I typically respond within 24-48 hours. It's like having a mentor in your pocket!
