Why We Need Art in Our Homes

Or, a Priceless Investment in Beauty and Wonder

There are many and varied ways to invest in art. I think those who invest in antique or pieces by long past but well known artists only to squander them in secret storage commit travesty. Art is meant to be seen, after all. While some may consider an investment in art frivolous or beyond practical means, I would argue that the investment in fact offers a priceless return. Owning a piece of art that speaks to you is a priceless investment in beauty and wonder.

We are born to be creative, we yearn to find connection, to see beauty, to feel that belly-full-of-butterflies-feeling of wonder and amazement, to experience moments of astounding joy and delight. Looking upon a piece of art created with empathy and intention that feels like it tells a part of your story, that speaks to your heart and mind as though it was made just for you, or that allows you a moment of peace and connection with something greater when you look at, is powerful, empowering, compassionate, and worth pursuing.

Life is too short for regrets about not bringing beauty into your home that you know will elevate your life, your heart, your home. You deserve that sense of abundance that a beautiful piece of art can provide when you are able to see it every day.

We all admire, are moved by, are intrigued by, different styles, subjects, and types of art, and none are right or wrong (other than for your own personal preference). And what are walls for if not to host beauty and curiosity that makes you pause and be present for a moment? (I mean sure, they hold up the ceiling, but that’s trivial compared to their art holding abilities, right?).

There has never been a better time to purchase art - be that an original if that is within your means, or a beautifully presented print. And there are so many artists doing a beautiful job of sharing their skills and passions with us all for free (for free!) on social media, what better way to support them than by purchasing some of their work for your own home. A much more personal and indeed conscious way to decorate your home than generic art from a big box store. My own walls are covered with purchases big and small from other independent artists, and they make my heart soar! What a gift to be able to look at these manifestations from another creative’s heart and hands.

I hope that the timelessness of my art empowers and fosters connection to the magic of the world around us. It allows us to see ourselves as part of a larger complex web of life, to dream into a slower paced life of intention and kindness, and to remember the memories carried in our cells of generations of life connected to land.

That little internal gasp when you make a connection to a piece of art, that flicker of excitement and wonder that happens when you recognise something deep in yourself in the piece, or something you are yearning to connect to, is palpable and not to be ignored. My pieces are created with intention and empathy, their intricacy is a reflection of compassion, and vision, and inspiration. Owning a piece is a way to nurture the same connection in you.

Investing in art has significant value that has nothing to do with monetary wealth. You are a creative being at heart, you were born to be curious, to wonder, to imagine a life outside of the one you live. Having art in your home sparks those joys that tend to be quashed by life in this fast paced reality. You deserve a place to find breath and a tranquil moment, a tiny connection. That, my love, is what art is for, and why you need it in your life today and everyday.
