ABOUT THIS PIECE

Boreal dwellers, these tiny predators are considered ‘sedentary’ - adults are residents in their range their entire life. I fell in love with her squared off head feathers, speckled with stars. Like all pygmy owls, she is tiny but fierce, and so I wanted to draw her tiny too - in fact his piece is roughly the same size as an adult. Oh to have one on my shoulder whispering the secrets of the wild all day!

The name of this piece was inspired by the poetry of Mary Oliver, who wrote many words about owls, their at once mysterious and wholly grounded nature, and connection to all facets of the web of life.
