ABOUT THIS PIECE
You will note this is the second Great Horned Owl in this collection, and I would draw a thousand more if I could. The shape of them, on a physical and metaphysical level, is simply breath-taking. There is a ferocity, a simple but profound “beingness”, a deep sense of place in the web of life. All aside from their remarkable plumage and intense gaze.
The name of this piece was inspired by the poetry of Mary Oliver, who wrote many words about owls, their at once mysterious and wholly grounded nature, and connection to all facets of the web of life.
